Remembering LA Food Critic Jonathan Gold

French Onion Soup

When Chef Bruno heard the news on CNN about food critic Jonathan Gold’s passing he felt the need to honor his legacy by remembering his impact on LA’s local food scene. We are deeply saddened by the news of his passing and are thankful for his dining with us in South Pasadena. Chef Bruno along with many other Chef-Owners around LA thank him for his influence and support of local food.

Jonathan Gold recommended Bistro de la Gare to a LA book club in 2011…

“As for French food: There are any number of serious French restaurants in Los Angeles, although far, far fewer than there were just a few years ago, and on the onion-soup end, the gastropub has thoroughly conquered the brasserie. If you’re in Northeast L.A., you’re probably going to wind up in CafĂ© Beaujolais or Bistro de la Gare, which are just about right.”
